About SnowScope

SnowScope shows where the snow is: snow depth on every slope today and for the next days, the deepest ski resorts, new snow, and places to stay. It is made by Atlas Labs.

How the snow map is made

The snow depth is computed every day by a snowpack model driven by weather analyses and forecasts, then shaped by the terrain (altitude and slope orientation). The free map shows it at about 1 km for the Alps, Pyrenees, US and Atlas; Pro shows it at about 500 m. Values are estimates for an area, not a measurement at one point. Resort values are the deepest snow within about 1.5 km of the resort.

Wind and freezing level come from global weather forecasts. Satellite snow shows what satellites saw on the last clear day. Avalanche danger levels are copied unchanged from the official warning services, with a link to their bulletin.

How SnowScope is paid for

Free visitors see ads. Hotel links and hotel maps marked “Partner” come from Stay22: if you book through them we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. Pro members support SnowScope directly and see no ads.

Safety

Snow and weather values are forecasts and estimates. SnowScope never replaces the official avalanche bulletin, a mountain guide or your own judgement.
